Established in 1802, Teleki Téka is the first public library in the present territory of Romania, and was founded by count Teleki Sámuel, Chancellor of Transylvania. He brought to Târgu Mureș, from all over Europe, the most important books published in Europe since the printing press was invented. Nowadays, the Teleki Library is one of the most beautiful and important libraries in Central and Eastern Europe and the only one in Transylvania that operates as a major tourist attraction. The oldest manuscript in the Teleki Library is Koncz Code – of major significance for Hungarian culture, being the sixth Hungarian language monument in the whole world. At Teleki Library you can also find the first full Romanian translation of the Bible, as well as a copy of the Declaration of Independence of the United States, printed in Philadelphia in 1819.
Înființată în anul 1802, Teleki Téka este prima bibliotecă publică de pe actualul teritoriu al României și a fost întemeiată de contele Teleki Sámuel, cancelar al Transilvaniei. El a adus la Târgu Mureș, din toată Europa, cele mai importante cărți apărute în Europa de la înfiinţarea tiparului. În prezent, Biblioteca Teleki este una dintre cele mai frumoase și importante biblioteci din Europa Centrală și de Est și singura din Transilvania care funcționează ca obiectiv turistic. Cel mai vechi manuscris din fondul Bibliotecii Teleki este Codicele Koncz de o însemnătate majoră pentru cultura maghiară, fiind al şaselea monument al limbii maghiare din lume. La Biblioteca Teleki se află și prima traducere integrală în limba română a Bibliei, precum și o copie a Declarației de Independență a Statelor Unite, tipărită în anul 1819, în Philadelphia.
Az 1802-ben gróf Teleki Sámuel erdélyi kancellár által alapított Teleki Téka Románia jelenlegi területén az első nyilvános könyvtárnak számít. Az egész Európából Marosvásárhelyre hozta a nyomda létrehozása óta Európában megjelent legfontosabb könyveket. Ma a Teleki Könyvtár Közép- és Kelet -Európa egyik legszebb és legfontosabb könyvtára, és Erdélyben az egyetlen, amely turisztikai attrakcióként is működik. A Teleki Könyvtár gyűjteményének legrégebbi kézirata a magyar kultúra szempontjából kiemelt jelentőségű Koncz-kódex, amely a magyar nyelv hatodik emlékműve. A Teleki Könyvtárban található a Biblia első teljes román fordítása, valamint az Egyesült Államok Függetlenségi Nyilatkozatának 1819-ben, Philadelphiában nyomtatott példánya.
Teleki Téka wurde 1802 gegründet und ist die erste öffentliche Bibliothek im heutigen Gebiet Rumäniens und wurde von Graf Teleki Sámuel, dem Kanzler von Siebenbürgen, gegründet. Er brachte nach Târgu Mureș aus ganz Europa die wichtigsten Bücher, die in Europa seit der Gründung des Buchdrucks erschienen sind. Heute ist die Teleki-Bibliothek eine der schönsten und bedeutendsten Bibliotheken Mittel- und Osteuropas und die einzige in Siebenbürgen, die als Touristenattraktion fungiert. Der älteste Manuskript in der Sammlung der Teleki-Bibliothek ist der Koncz-Kodex von großer Bedeutung für die ungarische Kultur, da er das sechste Denkmal der ungarischen Sprache in der Welt ist. Die Teleki-Bibliothek beherbergt auch die erste vollständige rumänische Bibelübersetzung sowie eine Kopie der Unabhängigkeitserklärung der Vereinigten Staaten, die 1819 in Philadelphia gedruckt wurde.

Il a apporté à Târgu Mureș, de toute l’Europe, les plus importants livres parus en Europe depuis la création de la presse. Actuellement, la Bibliothèque Teleki est l’un des plus belles et importantes bibliothèques de l’Europe Centrale et de l’Est et la seule en Transylvanie à fonctionner comme objectif touristique. Le manuscrit le plus ancien de la Bibliothèque de Teleki est le Codex Koncz qui a une signification majeure pour la culture hongroise, étant le sixièle monument du hongrois au monde. Dans la Bibliothèque Teleki se trouve aussi la première traduction intégrale en roumain de la Bible, ainsi qu’une copie de la Déclaration d’Indépendance des Etats Unis, imprimée en 1819, à Philadelphia.
