Bolyai János, son and pupil of Bolyai Farkas, was one of the bodies of mathematics history. He laid the foundation for hyperbolic geometry, a non-Euclidian geometry that changed the Newtonian view of the world. Through Bolyai János, both the theoretical geometry and the theoretical physics was revolutionized, and his work, Appendix, the only one published during his life, was the first step in the elaboration of Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. Bolyai died in Târgu Mureș in 1860 and his merits were recognized only after his death. A crater on the dark side of the moon was named Bolyai by the International Astronomical Union.
