While the small Cathedral in the center of Târgu Mureș is a miniature copy of the San Pietro Cathedral in the Vatican, the great Orthodox Cathedral in Târgu Mureș draws your attention for its dimensions. It is 52 meters to the top, 40 meters to the length of each side and 1.300 meters to the inside surface. All these features make it the largest church in Romania, in the category of Byzantine churches with inner painting. As a matter of fact, the 7.000 meters of the painting in the fresco make the Great Cathedral, the church in Romania with the largest surface of the interior painting. Dominant colors are red, yellow and blue, and this is also the first architectural monument in Târgu Mureș built after the Great Unification in 1918.
În timp ce Catedrala Mică din centrul Târgu Mureșului este o copie în miniatură a Catedralei San Pietro din Vatican, Catedrala Mare Ortodoxă din Târgu Mureș are cea mai mare suprafață de pictură interioară pe care o găsim într-o biserică din România. La un moment dat, aceasta era cea mai mare biserică din țară. Culorile dominante sunt roșu, galben și albastru, acesta fiind și primul monument architectural realizat în Târgu Mureș după Marea Unire din 1918.
